Mint & Assign License Terms

Minting & Licensing Digital Assets

The Genesis Protocol Licensing Framework provides a powerful and secure way for creators and digital asset owners to define, enforce, and manage licensing agreements using blockchain technology. Through on-chain smart contracts, licensing terms are embedded into digital assets, ensuring transparent rights management, automated royalty distribution, and seamless compliance enforcement.

The LicenseClient acts as the core interface for businesses and developers to issue, assign, and verify digital licenses programmatically.

LicenseClient Features & Functions

1. Link Licensing Terms

Method: linkLicenseTerms

  • Links a licensing agreement directly to a digital asset within Genesis Protocol.

  • Defines ownership rights, permitted usage, and compliance requirements.

  • Ensures that all future transactions involving the asset adhere to these terms.

2. Issuing License Tokens

Method: mintLicenseTokens

  • Generates unique license tokens that serve as verifiable proof of authorization.

  • These tokens grant licensed users or businesses permission to use or distribute an asset.

  • Requires pre-attached licensing terms before issuance.

  • May include royalty fees or usage conditions as set by the asset owner.

3. Defining Custom Licensing Agreements

Genesis Protocol supports multiple licensing models, allowing asset owners to specify terms tailored to their needs.

a) Genesis IP License Terms(GLT)

Method: registerTerms

  • Creates on-chain agreements that dictate how a digital asset can be utilized, monetized, or shared.

b) Non-Commercial Social Remixing License

Method: registerNonCommercialUse

  • Enables users to remix, modify, or redistribute an asset for non-commercial purposes.

  • Ensures the original creator retains credit and ownership.

c) Commercial Use License

Method: registerCommercialUse

  • Grants businesses and individuals the legal right to use an asset for monetization.

  • Ensures automated royalty payments to the asset owner.

d) Commercial Remix License

Method: registerCommercialUse

  • Allows derivative works to be sold or monetized under specific revenue-sharing conditions.

  • Protects original creators by enforcing compliance and fair compensation.

4. Accessing Licensing Information

Method: getLicenseTerms

  • Retrieves all licensing terms associated with a given digital asset.

  • Ensures transparency and automatic enforcement of agreements.

5. Estimating Licensing Costs

Method: calculateMintingLicenseFee

  • Calculates the expected minting cost for issuing license tokens.

  • Helps users plan licensing strategies before committing to transactions.

6. Customizing Licensing Configurations

Method: setLicensingConfig

  • Allows asset owners to tailor licensing policies based on their business needs.

  • Customizable parameters include:

    • Usage permissions (e.g., personal, commercial, remixing rights).

    • Royalty structures (e.g., percentage-based, flat fee).

    • Token distribution rules (e.g., user limits, automatic revocation).

  • If no specific licensing template or terms ID is set, the configuration applies universally across all associated licenses.
